Dicks Broadcasting approached Capital Wraps with the hope to improve the look of their building. They were thinking of a painted mural on the outside but they really wanted to use some of their branding and the artists that they broadcast on all their stations. Our team met with them on-site to look at the building and stucco wall to make sure our plan for an exterior building mural graphic would work. Visiting in person allowed us to determine that the condition of the building did not present an issue for our plan.
The strategy that Capital Wraps and Dicks Broadcasting employed with this project was multipronged. On one front the team determined that the town of Greensboro offered beautification grants for projects to improve the liveliness of downtown. We realized that this project would qualify for the grant and an application was submitted and subsequently approved to partially fund the project.
Secondarily, the team sought out a graphics designer who was familiar with the station to pull together original work for the graphic portion of the work. A montage of artists’ renderings was deemed appropriate for the setting and theme of the murals. The artwork was pulled together, reviewed and approved.
We were then off to production and installation. Material selection was an important consideration as it was an outside stucco wall that the client wanted to look good for as long as possible. The deep indents of the stucco also affected the material selection list to make sure that the material adhered to the wall fully and looked like paint.
The completed project was a terrific success. The mural was featured in the newspaper and on TV when it was completed and still looks great after many years!
